Before:After:
This is a photoshop version of something called The Orton Technique origonaly done with film slides but done here in Photoshop Elements. It kind of makes a dreamy artistic effect kind of like a painting. I really want to take some other pictures with this in mind. This is the only one in my library I could find that I wanted to use this on. The effect does not feel quite as dramatic on the smaller size photos here but you get the idea.

Watching Together

Before:
After:

This was after playing with a tutorial that I found here . The effect was not quite as dramatic as the example he used. I did not quite follow it to the same extent that he did. It was fun trying to figure it out too as he used photoshop and I used elements.

When I created this I wanted to apply an effect to the background while keeping the flower crisp and natural. This took a little frustration in figuring out the best way to seperate the two this is how I did it in the end.

  • First I made a duplicate copy of the picture then I used the magic extractor to remove the background and leave the flower. Then I applied some artistic effects to the background but I did find that there was a white smucge around where the flower was that I did not want.
  • Then I made another duplicate copy of the origonal and used the magic extractor to remove the flower I used the free transform to slightly enlarge the flower so that it coverd the white fringe
  • That is about it along with some tweaking of colors and contrast.
The original is a picture of a wildflower taken in Waterton Lakes national park
