When I created this I wanted to apply an effect to the background while keeping the flower crisp and natural. This took a little frustration in figuring out the best way to seperate the two this is how I did it in the end.

  • First I made a duplicate copy of the picture then I used the magic extractor to remove the background and leave the flower. Then I applied some artistic effects to the background but I did find that there was a white smucge around where the flower was that I did not want.
  • Then I made another duplicate copy of the origonal and used the magic extractor to remove the flower I used the free transform to slightly enlarge the flower so that it coverd the white fringe
  • That is about it along with some tweaking of colors and contrast.
The original is a picture of a wildflower taken in Waterton Lakes national park
